The Vagina Monologues
The Honors Program is once again pleased to help sponsor the student production of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues. It will be performed by students this Friday, February 12th and Saturday, February 13th in the Marinello Little Theater at 7:30PM. Students have produced this show in the belief that it is a powerful tool that empowers women, raises awareness, and promotes social justice in the John Carroll community. Proceeds will be donated to a local non-profit agency that supports the message of The Vagina Monologues, the Domestic Violence Center of Greater Cleveland. Tickets can be bought in the atrium all this week between 11 and 1. Tickets are $5 if purchased in advance and $7 if purchased at the door.

Honors Program Los Niños Immersion Trip, August 2010
The Honors Program has sponsored a service trip in conjunction with Los Niños to Tijuana and Mexicali, Mexico, for several years. We are planning to do a similar trip this summer, to either Tijuana or Guatemala, this August. This year however, it will be part of a three-credit course, HP 291, Justice and Democracy in a Global Context, that will focus on a critical examination of issues related to community development and service in the context of the history of Los Niños as an organization. Registration for the course may be on the Summer III schedule (in which case students would need to pay summer tuition) or on the Fall 2010 schedule (as part of the normal 18 hour load there would be no additional tuition involved). A travel fee will be necessary, although it will be subsidized by the Honors Program. The course will offer Honors Program credit, and International (R) or Diversity core credit.

SHAC Event: Cleveland Public Theatre, Jan. 28
Next Thursday evening, January 28th, the Honors Program will be taking a trip to see "Anna Belle Eema" a one act, dark comedy presented by Cleveland Public Theatre. The play is written by Lisa D'Amour and tells the story of "a woman, her daughter, and a strange girl in a trailer park. . . . Anna Bella Eema combines creepy campfire stories, music, sound and fairy tales in an original, highly stylized one-act" (CPT). So come, break up your week with us next Thursday!
If you're interested in attending email Lydia Munnell at lmunnell12@jcu.edu, and specify in your email whether or not you are van certified.
Thanks and we hope to see you next week!
